Barnbougle (Bridport, Tasmania)

With mild summer days, white-sand beaches and half a dozen national parks, eastern Tasmania is campervanning nirvana for Maui travellers. It’s also a Mecca for golfers thanks to the two exceptional courses at Barnbougle beside the wild Bass Strait. Port Fairy (Great Ocean Road, Victoria)

Hugging Victoria’s dramatic southern coast, the Great Ocean Road is one of Australia’s classic drives, with world-class surf breaks, limestone cliffs, pockets of rainforest and quiet seaside towns. The upscale township of Port Fairy is the envy of many with its traditional links course laid across gently undulating dunes overlooking the Southern Ocean. 13th Beach & Barwon Heads (Bellarine Peninsula, Victoria)

Near Geelong, the Bellarine Peninsula is famous for fine wine and seafood, gorgeous beaches and top quality golf around Barwon Heads. The Dunes (Mornington Peninsula, Victoria)

An hour’s drive from metropolitan Melbourne, Mornington Peninsula offers an array of natural attractions such as bushwalks and beaches, with the bonus of a liberal sprinkling of wineries. The peninsula also has more courses than you can shake a five iron at, one of the best of which is Dunes Golf Links – raw, magnificent, and allegedly mean! Retreat to the foreshore camps in Rosebud, Rye or Sorrento to lick your wounds.

Long Reef (Sydney, New South Wales)

Sydney is spoilt for choice when it comes to golf courses, but Long Reef Golf Club should definitely be on your hit list. This dramatic links course stretches over a headland with the Pacific Ocean looming menacingly on its left. It’s only 20 kilometres from the city, and a short drive from the Big4 Sydney Lakeside Holiday Park, a good base for exploring laidback Manly or heading into Sydney by ferry.

The Vintage (Hunter Valley, New South Wales)

Aging nicely in the middle of the wine-soaked Hunter Valley is the aptly named Vintage. Designed by Greg Norman, it winds through an undulating landscape of wetland and eucalyptus trees. According to tradition, the loser becomes designated driver while the victor enjoys a post-game tipple at one or two of the valley’s 140-plus wineries.

Bonville (Coffs Coast, New South Wales)

At the foot of the Great Dividing Range between Sydney and Brisbane lies Bonville Golf Resort, one of Australia’s most beautiful courses. Manicured, sloping fairways lined with lofty eucalyptus trees, blooming flowers and quick flowing streams have drawn comparisons with the mighty Augusta.

The North Beach Holiday Park at Mylestom is a pretty spot to park your Maui campervan and handy for visiting charming, artsy, chilled-out Bellingen, and exploring the World Heritage rainforest of Dorrigo National Park.
