Explore Whitsundays by Motorhome

Pick up your new home in Cairns and take the scenic half-day drive to Airlie Beach, stopping along the way for lunch. Airlie Beach is the gateway to the Whitsunday Islands and an absolute haven. There are a huge number of campsites and holiday parks but you will still need to book ahead as it's a popular option. It's no wonder why: with the beautiful Whitehaven Beach, tours to the Great Barrier Reef and day trips to the 74 islands that make up the Whitsundays, there is a lot on offer. This mainland town also offers sailing, snorkelling, bushwalking plus a vibrant nightlife made up of bars, pubs and world-class restaurants making it the perfect place to set up your motorhome.

If you'd like to move at a more relaxed pace we suggest heading 45 minutes north of Airlie to Bowen. The home of the mango has a choice of seven picturesque beaches that you'll find all to yourself. Bowen is perfect if you prefer the smaller beach town vibe.

You'll also find smaller and quieter seaside towns closer to Airlie Beach and indeed all along the coast. The popularity of the region means no shortage of campgrounds, holiday parks and eco parks dotted about.

To mix it up you could even head inland to explore Collinsville, a small country town far away from the tourist hubs. Don't let that fool you though, you'll find a wonderful hospitality there and the same cheeky Whitsundays personality.

Wherever you end up make sure to make the most of everything the Whitsundays has to offer. While beautiful blue water and white sand is the image we all think of, there's also lush and dense tropical rainforests to explore, vast plains of sugarcane amongst mountains and the deep red and brown landscape as you head west.

So what are you waiting for? Get a maui motorhome and get yourself to the Whitsundays. You'll have the flexibility to explore up and down the coast, to venture inland and up into the hills and take day trips to the islands. Be sure to send us a postcard while you're there!
