New Zealand Ferries

Motorhome ferry crossings in New Zealand

As New Zealand is made up of two main islands, it will be necessary for you to book a ferry crossing if you are travelling from the North to South Island or vice versa. It’s super convenient, all you have to do is drive on, enjoy the scenic cruise and then drive off. Ferry crossings take approximately three hours with several sailings each day.

This will actually give you an enjoyable break from driving – it’s a spectacular ferry crossing between Wellington in the North Island and Picton in the South Island. In fact, you are bound to see some scenic highlights along the way – Wine Spectator magazine calls it "one of the most beautiful ferry rides in the world". Lap up the views from the ferry decks of beautiful Wellington Harbour, the rugged North Island coastline, and the aquamarine Cook Strait and stunning Marlborough Sounds.

You can even have a meal or keep the kids entertained with new release movies if necessary. The Club Class lounge is an option if you feel like treating yourself to a private lounge with couch seating, complimentary newspapers, magazines and refreshments. You need to check in at least 60 minutes prior to departure when you’re crossing with a campervan. We can take care of your ferry booking once you have decided what day and time will suit you best. If you're wondering how much the ferries in New Zealand cost, this will depend on the length of your campervan or motorhome.

We recommend that you book well ahead of your holiday, especially if you are travelling during the November to March summer season or over busy events.
