Day 1
Cairns to Misson Beach

Distance 139km - Driving Time 1 hour, 49 minutes

Day 5
Airlie Beach to Mackay

Mackay to Yeppoon

Day 7
Yeppoon to Bundaburg

Get ready to hit the road for day seven of your Cairns to Gold Coast road trip—today, you're bound for Bundaberg! Once you've said your goodbyes to Yeppoon, hop on the Bruce Highway and relish the evolving scenery—coastal views giving way to the rugged interior and open farmlands—as you head south. Make sure you have some time set aside for a couple of noteworthy stops along the way. First up is Rockhampton, often referred to as the Beef Capital of Australia. However, it’s not just the steak that’s top-notch here; Rockhampton’s historic city centre deserves a stop as well. Day 8
Bundaberg to Hervey Bay

Distance 109km - Driving Time 1 hour, 21 minutes

Day eight of your epic Cairns to Gold Coast road trip promises another dose of Aussie magic as you make your way from Bundaberg to Hervey Bay. The drive is a relatively short one, clocking in at just 1 hour and 20 minutes. Just a bit off the highway, take the opportunity for a detour to Woodgate Beach. Nestled between national parks and boasting 16km of unspoiled sandy shores, it's a prime spot to stretch your legs and maybe even indulge in a little beachside picnic.

As you arrive in Hervey Bay, you’ll be greeted by a vista of golden beaches and crystal-clear waters – a true paradise for outdoor lovers. If you're visiting between July and November, one of the must-do activities here is whale watching. Day 9
Hervey Bay to Sunshine Coast

Distance 197km - Driving Time 2 hours, 23 minutes

Day nine of your epic Cairns to Gold Coast road trip is sure to be memorable as you journey 2 hours and 20 minutes from Hervey Bay to the Sunshine Coast. Before hitting the Sunshine Coast, be sure to make a pit stop in the quaint historic town of Maryborough. Bursting with heritage architecture and fascinating museums, Maryborough is well worth the detour. Start at the Maryborough Military & Colonial Museum, which houses an impressive collection of military memorabilia and historical artifacts. Then stretch your legs and perhaps enjoy a packed lunch in the lush and scenic Queens Park, one of Queensland's first botanic gardens.

As you finally roll into the Sunshine Coast, your list of things to do will be seemingly endless! Halfway through the drive, it's worth taking a detour to experience the beauty of Glass House Mountains National Park. Whether you fancy a hike, a scenic drive, or a leisurely picnic amidst nature, the park is a must-see spot that epitomizes the raw, untouched beauty of Australia’s landscape. When you arrive at the Gold Coast, the vibrant pulse of Surfers Paradise is immediately present. This iconic location offers plenty of activities, from surfing and beach sports to shopping and dining.
